Living The Dream: Week 4

Week 4 was simply amazing, and very, very busy!

Starting off the week strong after Pan-Am day and the Square Dance, Tuesday was a fun day filled with classic activities and our 9th grade girls played soccer at Lenox! The evening followed with one of the biggest camp traditions: Cabin Feud – the 2nd round of The Townsend Cup. Hosted by former campers, The Captain: Jared Schwartz and Co-Host: Michaela Biales, the boys faced the girls in an 11-question camp knowledge round, hoping to win back the trophy after the defeat in Cranium. The competition was heated, it was neck and neck, taking us into 4 bonus round questions. In an unbelievable showdown, Girls Camp came out on top and took back the Townsend Cup for another year! The energy was electric! We can’t wait for next summer to see who brings home the trophy – will 2025 be the year of Boy’s camp?!

Wednesday, our Waiters went to Taconic on a soc

cer inter-camp and our dance team headed to Lenox for a competition. Our dancers came in 1st place!!! We are so incredibly proud of them and their hard work spending hours of their time rehearsing! A rainy Wednesday night welcomed Sports-a-Rama Name that Tune! An all-camp event, which has outbreaks of dance parties, moo-offs and much more – from pencil roll lanes to piggyback rides and the worm… this evening activity is always energetic and a beloved activity by campers. The St Benedict’s Mighty Banyans scored the overall most points, adding to their total tally… guess that means we’ll have to stay tuned for another week to see who wins the next Sports-a-Rama event!

On Thursday, for a 2nd year running we hosted the Berkshire Sailing Regatta. Ten camps all competed on Center Lake. We had the most beautiful weather and the entire camp had the opportunity to see the some of the races and cheer on Watitoh. This year, our campers placed 2nd, an amazing success! We are so proud of the hard work our sailors put in and their efforts practicing at hobby. Thursday evening we had an all-camp campfire, hosted by Anakah, with fun skits, silly camp songs, SING songs, musical performances, milk chugging by Callan and Chelsee, and a bed-time story from Britton and Drew – there’s nothing more fun than an evening at the campfire with our bestie!

Friday was another great day! We had 2 inter-camps: 10th grade basketball at Greylock and 4th grade soccer at Taconic, while the rest of camp enjoyed all of what Watitoh had to offer: slime making in nature, basketball, tennis, cooking and much, much more. Friday evening, we welcomed some new boys and girls camp separate activities. Boys Camp participated in Hunt the Waiter. Similar to “Hunt the Counselor,” Waiters headed out of the Field House finding hiding spaces all over camp in the hope that the boys wouldn’t be able to find them and steal their hats. Girl’s camp was at the Waterfront competing in “Project Runway.” The girls split into groups and created a fashion-show-style strut across H-dock, where they ended jumping into Centre Lake from the 8-person stand up paddle board. Shanae our amazing host, brought the vibes and energy we needed as the girls creatively jumped into Green Tag in hopes of winning the plaque! The bunk of Yuma won with their creative routine and 10/10 bellyflops!!

Saturday night was an all-camp favorite even, Las Vegas Night. Poker, Roulette, Candy-Grams, Blackjack, and the Marriage Booth filled the Social Hall. After a busy night of Viva Las Vegas, we switched to the annual Dancing with the Staff contest. The contestants this year were: Jemma and Toby, Charlie and Hallie, Lizey and Joe, Noah and Janelle, Max and Jamie, and Talia and Josh. All teams smashed their routines and had the Social Hall smiling and laughing every step of the way. Down to the crowd cheers, Charlie and Hallie won with their mash-up street-dance performance.

Sunday, we said goodbye to our 4-weekers who we’ve LOVED having here this summer. We can’t wait to see you all again in 2025 (we miss you already!!!). However, we also had the excitement of welcoming two new campers from China and their host Li for the final three weeks. We can’t wait to welcome them into our Watitoh family!

Today we spent the day giving back as a camp community! We are all so lucky to have the gift of camp, and as a camp family, we want more children to receive this gift!  We learned all about Project Morry, a year-round youth development program for under-resourced kids with a summer camp experience. In the morning, the girls participated in a water carnival where they gained “laps” to raise money: swimming laps, slides down the slide, basketball shots, sink or swim, ninja and much more… While the boys ran an all-boys camp game of Capture the Flag. In the afternoon, the boys ran half water, half land events to raise their “laps” for Project Morry. Stay tuned for more information about donating to Project Morry by sponsoring your camper’s laps – to learn more, please visit: https://projectmorry.org/.

As we venture into week 5, we have lots of other exciting camp favorites to look forward to! Tonight was costume social. Tuesday is Watitoh Derby where campers and staff act like horses while bets are placed. Wednesday is MTV night on girls’ side and Hunt the Counselor on boy’s side. Thursday is our Upper Senior and TIC trip to Boston, Friday is our weekly campfire (with s’mores), Saturday is Dream Day and the Counselor Talent Show. We will end the week with Sports-a-Rama and a new camp trip for the Ranger boys!
