What an incredible first week of summer 2015 it has been! Despite a rainy start, all of the campers and counselors jumped right into camp as if they never left or had been here for many years. On Day 1, after the Yonkers and Montreal buses arrived, unpacking began, followed by bunk bonding and camp tours. The night was capped off with our “Opening Campfire” in the Social Hall with some great performances from summer 2014 and some highlights of what’s to come. The rest of the week was filled with an extremely active waterfront with campers already getting up on water skis for the first time, stand-up paddle boarding, and some super-star swim lessons! Out on the sports fields, we’ve seen some amazing footwork at tennis, throwing skills at softball, dribbling and shooting at basketball and so much more! The adventure course was roaring with the giant swing, vertical playpen, and the newest element, the Hanging Cargo Net! Origami, hat making, and ceramics are in full gear as well our nature/science program with their experiments, home grown garden and learning about our littlest camper, Shelby the turtle.

IMG_0442Highlights of the week included the inaugural season of our Cooking Program. Boys and girls alike have been enjoying Judy’s cooking lessons. They’ve already made candy sushi, edible cookie dough, soft pretzels, “Raid the pantry” cookies, homemade ice cream, and the list goes on. Lookout for the end-of-summer recipe book so you the campers can make everything again at home! The opening week of our Dance Studio was an enormous success. Every girls group has gone for their first dance class already and the Hobby is jammed pack with our talented campers. When walking past the Dance Studio, it’s hard not to start movin’ and groovin’ to the beat of the music. Who could forget about the new tumble track? Girls and boys are jumping their way through the gymnastics building!

Girls and Boys Camps have already had their share of bonding. During the first nights of camp the separate campuses had “Hi Guy” and “Hi Gal” (counselors introduce their campers and campers introduce their counselors by doing a skit, singing a song, or doing a dance!); Bunk Chase (girls) and Superstars (Boys); Scattegories (Girls) and Minute to Win It (Boys) and Big/Little Brothers and Big/Little Sisters were introduced. The weekend capped off an incredible week with the Camper Talent Show and an amazing Red,White, and Blue Day with teams competing in wacky games and relays on the Oval. The 4th of July Tradition continued with the Court Jesters Basketball Performance and a beautiful fireworks display over Center Lake.

The sun is shining and we’re ready for another fantastic week of programming, our first intercamp games, Sports-a-rama, new hobbies, Auction Night, and our first camp play, “Living the Dream: A Cabaret!” Stay tuned for next week’s recap from the Berkshires.
