Living the Dream: Week 3

We absolutely LOVED seeing all of our families this past weekend. Visiting Day was awesome! There was so much joy, amazing hugs, refreshing swims, and delicious treats. Our hearts were filled to see parents and campers together on the Oval, enjoying activities, and sharing in the most unbelievable day!
And here is the week in review…

Last Monday, the girls participated in their British Empire tradition. Great Britain, led by Chloe; Australia, led by Zoe; and Canada, led by Sydney, had an incredible day. They participated in a swim meet, an Apache relay, a track meet, and a round robin of sports. While all of the teams played their hardest, Canada came out on top! While the girls had “BED” day, the boys had their Sports-a-Rama swim meet and played Quidditch. That night was socials: the Debs and Cadets went bowling, while the rest of younger campers had a Luau and the older ones had “Campchella” in the Social Hall.
Tuesday night was the annual Birthday Banquet! A much-anticipated tradition, it is the night we celebrate the birthday of Camp Watitoh AND all of the campers and staff who do not have summer birthdays. We get slightly more dressed up, have a banquet style meal, and invite campers and staff to help us light the candles while we all sing “Happy Birthday to us!” Tom Carroll, a Watitoh legend, performed his famous songs along with his great covers. We danced and sang the night away!

Wednesday night was Gladiators for the girls. Campers vs. counselors in all sorts of silly games: Sumo wrestling, slip-n-slide tug-of-war, earth ball, musical chairs and more.  Congrats to Yuma for winning the event! The boys played REBUS, a scavenger hunt meets logic puzzle game. Congratulations to the White team for winning! The code was “We Miss Callan!”
Thursday was the coed swim meet at Camp Greylock where Watitoh placed 3rd. Forty campers traveled across Center Lake by boat to compete!! Thursday night the whole camp had SING practice.

Friday night was one of the most special nights of the summer, the Watitoh SING. Our counselors rewrote the words to popular songs and all week the campers have been learning, practicing, and working on staging for this highly anticipated night. We were so proud of all of our performers and overwhelmed by the commitment of our staff. We would like to especially thank our Drama Director, James, and counselors Rory and Aaron for all of their help all week.

After our amazing Visiting Day, we had an all camp shaving cream fight!  For our evening activity we watched The Lorax and Grease on Saturday night, ate all of our candy, and went to bed with our hearts full. On Sunday we canceled afternoon activities to watch the England vs. Spain Euro Cup Finals. Congratulations to our Spanish staff for their big win!! Those who didn’t want to watch had a “day at the lake” and got to enjoy a general swim most of the afternoon! It was a gorgeous day!

Today was Pan Am Day for the boys. Chile, led by Sollie; Argentina, led by Sam; and Brazil, led by Asher, had a memorable day on and off the field. Sports, an Apache, a Bucket Brigade and more filled the day. Argentina went on to victory! At the same time, the girls had their Sports-a-Rama swim meet, a general swim, and a TIC led scavenger hunt. Tonight was our favorite Square Dance with Cliff Broder and the Square 1 Band. As a part of the landscape of Camp Watitoh, Cliff and his bandmates led the camp in all sorts of fun line dances and square dances on Boys Court!

Looking ahead, we have an amazing week planned. Between the next round of the Townsend Cup tomorrow, separates on Wednesday, hosting the Berkshire Cup on Center Lake, and we’ll end the week with our favorite Las Vegas Night.

Keep following the social media and check out those pictures every day!!
