Living the Dream: Week 5

Wow, what an amazing week it’s been here in Becket! It’s hard to believe a week can go by so fast! We’ve had the most incredible time, with our last week of inter-camps, special events, and FAKE color war breaks!

Tuesday morningwas a day full of basketball. Our Waiters went to Lenox and our Ranger boys had a blast at Mah-Kee-Nac for inter-camps. Tuesday night was Watitoh Derby in the hockey arena! While six horses went neck and neck on multiple rounds, campers and counselors had the opportunity to act like the horses and race one another while the rest of camp could “bet on the horses” they thought had the best odds. It was a super exciting night, hosted by Jogas and Beatrice and with special nite bite served in “VIP lounge,” aka the Archery Range!

Wednesday was so much fun! Campers in the Hiking Hobby had the opportunity to leave camp to find a local waterfall where they swam in natural springs! We also took the Debs and Cadets on a surprise trip to the Circus; they had the best time and even had the chance to meet the performers afterwards! Wednesday night was our traditional separates. Girls danced their hearts out for MTV Night – it was absolutely incredible! Yuma won with their rendition of Six the Musical’s “Ex-Wives”, Narragansett came 2nd and Shoshoni 3rd. It was definitely a dance party to remember! At the same time, Boys Camp had Hunt the Counselor! Dressed in all black, counselors hid around camp and boys tried to find them. Each counselor is a different points value… some are positive points and some negative. Nathan won the whole thing! It was epic!

Thursday our TICs and Upper Senior Boys and Girls went to Boston. They visited the JFK museum, had a touristy lunch at Quincy Market, followed by a Boston Duck Tour on the harbour. Then they had some free time to shop on Newberry Street before having dinner in a local pizzeria. Our itinerary was jam-packed and our campers had the best time exploring the city. The Waiters enjoyed a well-deserved “day off.” Back at camp, we enjoyed a day of normal activities, followed by a movie night watching Monsters Inc.

Friday was a beautiful day and had the best time living in a typical Watitoh day: gymnastics, hockey, arts and crafts, archery, slime making, adventure and lots of time at the waterfront and so much more! Days like this one really allowed us to spend the day living the dream at Camp Watitoh. The evening was one of our weekly campfires. This week we had performances from leadership, Dakota, the TICs, staff and campers, ending with the reading of “A Giving Tree” read by Britton and Drew.

Saturday was crazy. We welcomed 20+ prospective families for a very successful Dream Day! We had a great day and had the opportunity to show off how amazing Watitoh is to our future campers! The spirit all day was at an all-time high as Color War is starting to be in the air! Our Senior boys spent the day in Cooperstown visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame while our Senior girls spent the day in Lenox at Tanglewood watching the Boston Symphony and then exploring the local town! That night was just as special as we had the chance to watch many of our amazing staff perform in the Staff Talent Show. There was an Irish jig, card magic, musical performances, stand-up comedy, dances, and Keegan balancing a baseball bat on his finger for the entire show. The icing on the cake was a fake Color War break from our past Chiefs and Generals… What a night! Major kudos to all acts who performed.

Sunday was a pretty regular day at Watitoh. The Ranger boys went on their summer trip to a Hartford Yard Goats baseball game at Dunkin Park, while the rest of camp had normal programming… until… dinner line up! The office announced all campers and staff to the adventure course. Everyone ran with excitement to a note saying “EGAD?”. Another announcement was then made to go to the Field House where everyone was buzzing with excitement. Yet again, we were met with a sign saying, “Do you want Olympiad?” Camp was going wild! Then there was another announcement directing all of us to the Squash Court… was this time for Olympiad? ….. NOPE. ANOTHER FAKE BREAK! The last sign directed us to go back to Sports-a-Rama line up – Booooo!

With mystery in the air with Color War and lots of special events looming… Fake breaks, strange happenings, and schedule changes have all added allure as to what’s to come! Stay tuned for the many exciting things ahead… Sports-a-Rama, Watitoh Gardens, Memory Lane, the rescheduled Carnival, a hypnotist, and more… Who knows, will Color War break sometime soon?! Stay tuned for the ride and make sure you follow on socials for updates!
